Corneliu Z. Codreanu (1899 - 1938) known as "The Captain" was a Romanian nationalist who opposed the forces of Communism. He formed and led a movement of Legionaries known as the Iron Guard or The Legion of Michael the Archangel. This legion was imbued with a mystical fascination and immersed in the traditions of Romanian Orthodoxy and operated out of cells known as "nests".
